BPC 157 is a synthetic peptide responsible for protective processes in the body in particular it protects stomach cells and maintains gastric integrity against various harmful agents. BPC 157 can also be found in the gastric mucosa and gastric juice. Additionally, BPC 157 protects against the effects of alcohol and anti-inflammatory drugs on the gastric outer lining and other tissue, that is, skin, liver, pancreas, heart, and brain, and thereby may play a large role in wound healing.

BPC 157 also has an effect on blood vessels, and can assist in reestablish the integrity of blood flow. Lastly, BPC 157 counteracts tumor wasting syndrome, muscle wasting, and has shown to increase in pro-inflammatory cytokines or procachectic factors produced by tumor cells or host immune cells.
